The door is the most obvious way into a house - and it's the first place a thief will try.
If a door is not securely locked, a burglar can either kick it open or lever it open with a jemmy in seconds.

It is essential to make sure that all external doors are protected and securely locked with a high quality mortice lock.
This type of lock is embedded in the door for extra strength.

There are 2 different types of mortice locks available:

DEADLOCK
- a straight deadbolt operated only by key -

SASHLOCK
- has a sprung latch which catches when the door closes, as well as a deadlock -

Make sure your external door locks meet the BS 3621 standard (the kite mark).
Most insurance companies insist on it, and it's recommended by Crime Prevention Officers
